Import Custom Assets From a CSV or Excel File

Add many custom assets at once: one asset on each line of a CSV or Excel file, a check of what will be added, then one import. Free, within your plan's limits.
Import Custom Assets From a CSV or Excel File
Adding custom assets one at a time is fine for three. For 250, put them in a spreadsheet, one on each line, and add them all at once.
Custom assets hold what has no market price in Turbobulls: a flat, a pension fund, a bond bought at your bank, gold coins, a stake in a private company. An import reads a CSV or Excel file with one asset on each line, shows you what it found, and adds them all in one go. A line with a mistake is left out and listed with the reason, and the others go in.
Your file stays on your device. It is read in your browser and never uploaded. The assets it adds are encrypted on your device like everything else in your portfolio, so we cannot read them.

Where to Find It

  • On a computer: open Assets and choose Import assets, next to Custom asset.
  • In the custom asset window, phones included: its first step, where you pick a category, starts with "Many to add? Import them from a CSV or Excel file." Choose Import from file.

That line is not there when the window opens to add a single asset for a transaction you are entering, or for a line of a transaction import.

1. Fill In the Template

On the import's first screen, Download template saves a CSV file that Excel and other spreadsheet apps open. Put one asset on each line, under these headings:

ColumnWhat goes in it
NameWhat you call it. Needed.
CodeA short code of your own, such as FLAT-BUC. Needed. Transaction imports find the asset by it.
CategoryOne of the app's 14: Stock, ETF, Fund, Bond, Crypto, Cash, Deposits, Real Estate, Metals, Art, Collectible, Startup, Index or Other. Needed.
CurrencyA three-letter code, such as EUR or RON. Needed.
Price, Price dateIts latest price, and the day of that price. With no date, the price is dated the day you import.
CountryA two-letter code, such as RO, or the country's name in English.
Sector, IndustryFree text. A name your portfolio already uses keeps the portfolio's spelling (see below).
TagsSeparate several with a semicolon. A name you have no tag for becomes a new tag.
Target weightYour target share for it, from 0 to 100.
NotesUp to 200 characters.

The template comes with three example lines. Here they are, with the needed columns and two others:

NameCodeCategoryCurrencyPricePrice dateTags
Bucharest flatFLAT-BUCReal EstateEUR1850002026-10-31Property
Pillar II pensionPENSION-P2FundRON38.422026-10-31Pension
Gold coinsGOLD-1OZMetalsEUR24502026-10-31

Replace them with your own lines and save the file as CSV or Excel.

Your Own Spreadsheet Works Too

You do not have to start from the template.

  • Headings can be the template's or the words people use, such as Ticker or Symbol for the code and Type or Asset class for the category. Romanian, German, French and Spanish headings are read too. A title or a few blank lines above them are fine.
  • The four needed columns must be there. Without one, the import names it and adds nothing.
  • Other columns, such as an ISIN, are left alone, and the check names them.
  • Categories can be everyday words for many of the 14, such as Shares, Property, Pension fund or Gold. A word the import does not know leaves the line out, with the reason.
  • Dates and numbers can be written your way: 2026-10-31, 31.10.2026 and 31/10/2026 all read, and so do 1,234.50 and 1.234,50. When a file's dates read either way, the check asks whether the day or the month comes first.
  • The file can be a CSV with commas, semicolons or tabs, or an Excel workbook, whose first sheet with data is read.

2. Check What Will Be Added

Choose the file, or drop it on the import. Nothing is saved yet. The check shows four counts:

  • To add: the custom assets the import will add, listed with their category, currency, tags and price.
  • Already yours: lines whose code your workspace already has, for a custom asset or one from the market. They are left as they are: an import never changes an asset you have.
  • Left out: lines with a mistake, each listed with its row and the reason.
  • With a price: how many of the new assets come with one.

It also says which new tags the import will make, which sector and industry names are new to your portfolio, and how many prices have no date and will be dated today.

Why a Line Is Left Out

A line is left out, with its row and the reason, when:

  • it has no name, code, category or currency;
  • its category is not one of the 14, or a word the import knows for one;
  • its currency is not a code Turbobulls knows (EUR is, EURO is not, and lei reads as RON);
  • its price is not a number, or not above 0;
  • its price date is not a date, or is after today;
  • its country is not one Turbobulls knows;
  • its target weight is outside 0 to 100, or its notes run past 200 characters;
  • its code repeats an earlier line's: the first line with that code keeps it.

Fix those lines in your file and import the same file again. Everything the first import added is now Already yours, so only the fixed lines are added.

Sector and Industry Names

A sector spelled two ways counts as two sectors. So when a sector or industry in your file is one your portfolio already uses, whatever its capitals, spaces or accents, the import writes it the way your portfolio does: technology and TECHNOLOGY both go in as Technology.

Any other name is kept as you wrote it, and the check lists it as a new sector or industry before anything is saved. The import does not guess, so Tech and Technolgy are new names, not Technology. If one is a typo, fix it in the file and choose the file again.

3. Import

Choose Import 248 assets (the button counts yours). The last screen says what was added and where to find it:

  • On Assets, once they have a transaction. A custom asset with no transaction yet does not show there.
  • In Add transaction, by its name or code.
  • In your transaction imports: lines with these codes go to these assets, as with any asset you have. On a computer, Import transactions starts one from that screen.

Undo import takes the whole import back, new tags included. It is on that last screen only, so read the list before you close it.

What It Costs

Importing is free on every plan, as adding a custom asset by hand is. What counts is your plan's room. The free plan holds 10 assets in all, custom ones included, and 10 tags. Investing Pro lifts the cap on assets and allows 30 tags; Turbo Pro and the 14-day trial have no caps.

An import fits whole or is not saved. When it adds more than your plan has room for, the check still shows everything, says how many would fit, and offers See plans in place of the import button.

One import takes up to 2,000 assets, from a file of up to 5 MB. For more, split the file and import each part.

Good to Know

  • One price per asset. The import takes each asset's latest price. For a price history, open the asset and use Import from file on its Prices tab.
  • Codes are yours. A code only has to be new to your workspace. If you will import transactions for these assets later, use the code your transaction file uses, so each line finds its asset.
  • An import adds, it never edits. To change an asset you already have, open it and edit it.
  • Prices that keep themselves up to date. On Turbo Pro, a custom asset can take its prices from your own market-data provider. See custom data sources.
